 1.  A Journey Through New Mexico History
Lavash, Donald R. Portales, New Mexico, USA Bishop Publishing Company 1971 Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket
; 287 pages with index, Fifth printing 1978; Black & white photographs, maps and illustrations; Foreword by George A. Agogino, Ph.D.; Textblock is tight with light amount of underlining, former owners name to second front-free endpaper; Illustrated Endpapers; Yellow cloth-covered boards with title in brown; Has modest shelf and edge wear including some light rubbing to edges; . (The text, as well as well-chosen photographs, enrich the understanding of the shifting events and landscape of the diversified land-state of New Mexico and it's diversified population. This was originally designed to be a junior high school-level textbook that would not only inform but try to bring to life historical figures making them more human and understandable, instead of just a dry chronological listing of events. The author spent an entire chapter on New Mexico's State Government helping individuals to comprehend more of their individual rights, as well as protections, and state electoral procedures. Another complete chapter is devoted to the American Indian, not only the contemporary Indians within the state, but historically dealing with Indians' past contributions including an account of the state's Paleo-Indian. Perhaps what some consider the most colorful era in New Mexico's rich history is the Territorial period. The listed contents are: Land Formations and Early Life, Early Man of New Mexico, Indians of New Mexico, Early Explorers of New Mexico, Invasion and Conquest of New Mexico, Spanish Colonial Period, Spanish Occupation of the Southwest, Rule by Mexico, New Mexico Territorial Days, New Mexico in the Twentieth Century, The Counties of New Mexico, State and Local Government, Appendix, Bibliography, Index.)
