(This is a story of climaxes, endings, and the sundown of a decade that had blazed with joy, excitement and triumph. The decade was roughly from the early fifties to the early sixties when the 'belle epoque' of the musical theatre that had begun in 1943, reached its zenith. It was also the decade when MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), the creator of the modern screen musical, made its last Academy Award-winning gasp and within a year closed its musical doors. It was the decade that ended with a musical score for Broadway by Frederick Loewe, the last production of the famous English producer Jack Hylton, the last contribution to Broadway by the great Moss Hart, and of a musical that became the symbol of John F. Kennedy's brief life - ah, but this is also the story of three great films: 1) 'My Fair Lady' 2) 'Gigi' and 3) 'Camelot'. A book that once you start reading is hard to put down, and is generously illustrated with photographs including Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison and Richard Burton.)
